Petition to Open Fircrest Activities Building, Gym and Pool

Petition Summary:

The Activities Building at Fircrest School in Shoreline was closed by

Washington State Department of Social and Health Services in 2009

due to budget cuts

Building located at 15239 15th Ave NE, Shoreline, WA  98155

There is a full size gym, auditorium, kitchen facilities and two pools

(main pool and a therapy pool heated to 95 degrees) both of which are

accessible by stairs or lift.

The building is centrally located and accessible to all.  It is an important venue for community events and activities.

Many groups have asked about this facility and the closure of the pool was detrimental to the

health of those with disabilities – ranging from arthritis, spinal cord injuries, fibromyalgia,

cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis and more.

We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens and community groups

who urge our leaders to action in reopening this facility for our

community activities and the health and recreation for our citizens.  We

are interested in finding alternative funding sources to maintain the

building and also interested in pilot projects and programs with those

who work with solar or wind energy to help minimize the utility costs.

In the Comments Section, please write your name or group, contact person, email, address, phone and ideas.  We will contact you.

Fircrest Pool and Activities Building

We are gathering support in hopes of being able to access the Activities Building, swimming pool and therapy pool at Fircrest School in Shoreline, WA.

There is a history of may agencies using the therapy pool – many with arthritis, multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, spinal cord injuries, people with other disabilities and children – These people have been left without a pool to access for therapy and recreation.

We would like to change that – please let me know if you would like to join in the process of improving the future by reopening not only the pool but also the activities building.
